A Mme Campbell (pour lundi, 4 fevrier)

SUBMIT YOUR RESPONSE as a COMMENT ("Commentaire") to this POST.
MINIMUM 250 words.

DIRECTIONS: For this assignment, you will have to do a bit of research and reading using the links provided on the right side of this page.
You will also notice that Mrs. Campbell has joined our blog site, and for this first assignment, we will pretend that she is new to St. Mary's and even to Catholicism. Finally, we will also make the following assumption: that what took place in Bernadette's life actually happened LAST YEAR (rather than in 1858), and you, yourself, are only now discovering these events.

IN YOUR OWN WORDS, (that is, without cutting and pasting ANYTHING, employing vocabulary and expressions common to high school students), provide for Mrs. Campbell answers to the questions listed below. Remember that you are writing to a PERSON, therefore sufficient explanation is needed with your detail. Do not assume she knows anything! Your responses will be graded according to accuracy of detail and quality/sincerity of expression.
  • Who is Bernadette Soubirous? (bio details, character sketch)
  • Where does she come from? (geo location, environment, etc.)
  • What happened on 11 February (1858) in her life? (NB: only 11 February)
  • What is your reaction to this event? NB: Imagine that it happened last year, and you're just learning about it now.
HOW TO SUBMIT ASSIGNMENT:
Please...
1. Do NOT create a "NEW POST" for your response. You will submit your response by creating a "COMMENT" ("Enregistrer un commentaire") for this post.

I am the Immaculate Conception.

jeudi, 11 février 1858

150 years ago, outside of a small town in southwestern France, the life of a young, simple girl would be changed forever.

150 years later, on campus of a small high school in southwestern USA, her life would be the one to change the lives of others...

Bernadette was a frail, humble, and poor young woman, her only possession a simple, pure, and honest love of God.

For five months, the peasant girl received 18 visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary who identified herself as the Immaculate Conception. Bernadette also received an unfortunate amount of threats, disbelief, and ridicule from family and officials.

And yet, with dignity, grace, and tremendous common sense, this 14-year old girl stands up to it all, faithfully relaying Our Lady's messages.

Welcome to The Lourdes Project! In the remaining weeks of this semester, Ms. Strafaci's French classes will participate in the celebration taking place "across the pond" and encounter Jesus and his Mother through the eyes of Bernadette.
