Hello, my name is Carly Marshall and I'm sixteen years old. I was born and I currently live in Glendale, Arizona and I attend St. Mary's High school.I grew up spending the majority of my life dancing and acting. I started to dance when I was three and I continued until my retirement in August of last year. So needless to say that was a major part if not my entire life.
I never did volunteer work until I was inducted in the National Junior Honor Society at the end of seventh grade. Once I was inducted it was mandatory that all the students involved complete a minimum number of service hours in order to recieve our certificates, and this number needed to be turned in by the end of our eighth grade year. Needless to say it was a mad dash to not only get all of my hours in on time but there was a contest between all of the kids to see who could impress everyone at the end of the year when they announced our numbers of service hours with the most. And I jumped in with both feet. I searched frantically for something that I would enjoy doing, and I eventually came upon Sun Health Nursing Home. I loved going into the home and visiting with the elderly and sick considering many either had no family to speak of or none that lived close enough to come visit them on a regular basis. Both of my grandmothers lived on the other side of the country and both of my grandfathers died years before I was born so I instantly felt the same grandparent, grandchild bond that they felt. I would play the piano with them or just simply talk. I did this for some time before I unfortunately had to stop near the end of the year because all of this piled on top of my heavy dance load was wearing me thin.
So this brings me to why I am interested in the service at Lourdes. I believe that my time helping was cut short and I really want to continue to help people find peace. Which is why I am now submitting my application for the service to St.Joseph. Being able to participate in such a wonderful activity would make me feel like my time can be well spent.

Let me start off by saying I am the oldest of two children in my family. I live with my mom and younger sister but extended family are a part of my everyday life. I've grown up in Phoenix surrounded by aunts and uncles, cousins, and my grandparents. I come from a large but close family.

I have a wide range of interests, ranging from artistic to literary. Currently, I am a junior in high school. I am not entirely sure with what I want to do in my life, but I believe I want to help people. I should be chosen to attend this pilgrimage and help travelers in need of assistance because I enjoy helping others. This year I've realized more than ever the importance of giving and with giving you receive. I find myself looking for more oppurtunities to be helpful. I've become appreciative and fond of the feeling you get from lending a helping hand. You feel almost proud, but glad you did a good thing at the same time. I should also be chosen because going to Lourdes and volunteering would be a great oppurtunity to learn more about myself as well as have a better understanding of the outside world. I would want to benefit from the oppurtunity to witness other cultures and other beliefs than what I know. Traveling to Lourdes and helping pilgrims would be ideal for experiences to grow and learn from. Traveling in itself has been something I've always wanted to do, traveling to Lourdes to help only adds to the appeal. Finally, I should be chosen to go to Lourdes and assist with all the people traveling because it is a chance to grow in my relationship with God. In this moment I would call my relationship with Him to be average, but when placed in such a spiritual and healing environment with so many oppurtunities to reach out and help, there's no telling how your faith will be changed.

Furthermore, I should be chosen because I have some experience. I have volunteered before at school functions and fundraisers. I have also volunteered at several walks for charity, volunteering to set up or hand out food and drinks. I have also directly participated in one of these walks for the cure. I also have experience working in groups to get tasks done. I believe I can do a great job if chosen for this role; helping others and ensuring they have the best pilgrimage possible.

HI, my names Andrew Gooding, im a jr. at saint mary catholic school. i recently transfered from my old school westview. I decided to change schools to get a better education and open up more option for future references later along in my life. Im an easy going person and can get along with most people, but when it comes to locking down and getting serious, i can be firm and get the job done. As far as volunteer work, ive done community service, and food drives through my old job of lifeguarding. Lifeguarding was a huge experience for me, the duty of having a patron in the palm of your hands. The fact of knowing that if you dont do your job, lives could be lost. I spent 3 weeks in a class that trained me to become a lifguard, which came in handy because by the end of the summer secession, i had saved 5 lives. I beleave having a job that is so serious made me a way more mature person. In all my free time i was voluntering for food drives, and helping familys in need of food, and picking up trash for extra community service. Working their a whole summer and see all the little kids who parents were either drugys, or gang bangers, made me want to care and show those little kids that they can make something of themsleves later in life. Their would be parents that would drop their kids off at 6 am and come back for them at 9 to go to their home shelter in which they only had one meal a day. It broke my heart to see people living this way. whenever i had the chance id go to jack in the box and buy like 50 jack tacos and feed them :). The experience of this job and volunteering to save lives made me want to become a better person as a whole. It made me realize that life isnt always easy for people. Thats why i want to volunteer for lourdes to stay in the duty of helping out. I grew up in a poor nieghborhood, ive seen kids fall and choose the wrong life styles, i want to do everything i can to give people more oppurtunities to make something of themsleves. I bleave through god, everyone can find the good person and strength deep down within themsleves. I would be good for volunteering because ive been through alot and i honestly understand what helping from the heart feels like. If this world all together would unite and for once help someone out besides themsleves, everyone could be induced with happiness. Life isnt easy, i have lost friends and family to gangs and drugs, and it makes me sick! this is what drives me to help change the world and make people want to change to be good. I feel im the right person for this voluinteer work, i can get the job done, i can be counted on, and i have the right mind state for the job. I promised if im picked, i will do everything in my power to make sure the jobs done.

sincerely, Andrew aurlieo russell stewart Gooding

Hello! I am Eboniece Johnson and I am fifteen years old. I am also a sophomore in St. Mary's High School. Anyway, I heard about the pilgrimage to Lourdes and have taken the opportunity to volunteer into consideration. You are probably wondering why a 15 year old like me would find this interesting, right? Well, I must say that I have not been on a pilgrimage before and this will be my first time. So the thought of going is very iteresting to me. I am not a very social person but I have the potential to develop some social skills.
However, I have the experience of volunteering and helping out at a Family Dinner Room Organization for the poor and unfortunate, in Arizona. I am active when it comes to helping others. If I am asked to do something I will do it. My family likes to help those in need as well and they advise that I go on this pilgrimage and that I give my all as a volunteer of Lourdes.
A couple reasons why I want do this is so that I can develop better social skills, get to know people and really learn more about Lourdes through the experiences of others. As a young person, this gives me more of an opportunity to become more humble. I believe that this pilgrimage will help me emotionally as well as spiritually. This is another reason why I want to go on this pilgrimage, to better myself and appreciate those around me. A volunteer's experience means more when they have the chance to communicate with others. So again, I am interested and I hope you choose me as a volunteer for the pilgrimage of Lourdes. Goodbye!

Hello, my name is Jose Robles. Im writing this letter to ask a favor, and that is, if i could take part on this wonderful journey to Lourdes. Im not only willing to go, but also to help out with the sick and the crippled who may need some assistance during the pilgrimage. I would love to go on this trip, because i have never been on a pilgramige. I feel that I need to experience something like this in my life. I have heard many great things about trips such as this one.

I have had little experiance taking care of sick or crippled people. Im in a point in my life where I need to get closer to my religion, which would be one of my main goals during the pilgrimage. I feel I have lost myself during time. I not only lost myself, but my religion aswell. I need some time to repent, forgive, and and love. Ever since I learned about the pilgrimage I cant forget about it. This journey to Lourdes seems to be the answer to my problem.

The thoughts I get from just going to Lourdes are wonderfull, but never have i felt what i feel about going with a group of people that understand me and know how much it means to go on this trip. It seems to be a very important thing in my life that I feel I have to acomplish. I feel that I have to go on this trip to see the many wonders Lourdes has to hold, and also to meet people, to learn from them , and to teach them. I have never been part of such a trip as this one.

Thank you for reading and I hope to see you soon.

Hi my name is Andrea Guerrero. I am 15 years old. I was born on April 25,1992. Being the eldest of my siblings, I have a big responsibility for my two younger brothers. I want to be an example for them, guide them into a good path. Both of my parents were born and raised in Mexico. Throughout my childhood I've learned their language, Spanish, making me bilingual. Eventhough I don't know everything of the Spanish language, I decided to take French as my foreign language in my High School. I wanted to learn something new so i could be able to speak three languages. In my second year of French I learned of Lourdes, having its Jubilee year. Being an enormous gathering of pilgrims each year, has an impact to every single soul. I go to church every single week with my family. I know that miracles are possible and its incredible to witness one. At this point I haven't but I've heard that it's a feeling that will change your life. I would like to witness one.

My experince on being a volunteer has been a good one. To help people in need is always a wonderful action. I've been to the Salvation Army as a volunteer, to pack toys for children. I took that as an actof caring for all those children in need. It was not as easy as it seemed when it waa being explained. At the end it was worth working all those hours to know that we were going to make a child very happy.
At Church I have volunteered with variety of activities. During the summer I volunteered to help with the Summer Bible School. I help with the outside activities, playing with kids of different ages. Not knowing how they would act in participating. Every single day for a week turn out having a good evening. It would tale a whole to goof around with them to get their trust and get then to participate. On special services there is always a group of people who perform a special with flags. I vonlunteered putting the microphones, and then setting them up with the sound system. Also with the computer, turning it on for the power point, having it ready for the worship time. I like myself usefull to know its the better for the rest.

I would like to be part of this activity as a volunteer this year to witness variety of people coming together. I would want to experience other peoples joy. Knowing that when we helping our neighbors we'll bemaking God happy. All those pilgrims coming from different parts of the world just shows how Lourdes has an impact on every person. Coming for different reasons, they also go for the spring.

Hi, my name is Natasha Elkik. I am fifteen years old and go to St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Ariziona where I am a sophomore.
I like to be a little invovled at my school so i am in the drama club where i do make up and hair for the school plays and am on the tennis team where i play monday through thursday for about two to three hours. During the weekends, if I am not busy I will babysit or go volunteer at a nursing home with my sister. On my spare time I enjoy playing the piano and teaching dance to younger kids. On Sunday mornings I teach a cathecism class at my church for the five and six years olds.

I live in a house where everyone speaks their own language to me, literally. My mother is Russian and my father is Lebanese; they both like to talk to me and my brother in their own language so when every two years i go to visit my relatives I can completly communicate with them, which makes me multilanguagal speaking Russian, Lebanese, and English all fluently.

mcmorrow a dit…

Why, hello there, my name is Kiera McMorrow and I am a 16 year old sophomore at St. Mary's highschool. Let's start at the beginning of my life. I was born in Sacromento, California October 12, 1991. I have three other sisters living with me. I have one older sister, Deven she is 18 years old, and she is attending U of A right now so she comes to visit on her breaks from school. And I have two younger sisters Marina is 13 and Taryn is 10.

I am probably the biggest soccer fresk you will ever meet in your entire life. I have been playing soccer since I was about probably 2 or 3 years old. Soccer is practically my whole life, I live and breathe soccer which people think that is very weird. But i don't care cause I love the sport and I am really good at it. I am right now the most wanted soccer player in my age group in club and the most hated as well. I am a very aggressive soccer player and i pour my heart out on the field when i play. I have been known for speed and strength on the field. I am so aggressive when i was in 3rd grade, I was kicked out of my age group and i was put in a age group that was about 3-4 years older and bigger than me. I was the first girl in the state to be allowed to do that which I think is an honor. Well, kinda.

I have played on many teams in Arizona. I have been kicked out of a few games cause I was to rough with the other team but I think of it as they are all just wimps. Which is kinda funny how I think of it. I stated playing cause my dad wants me to live on his dream to become a semi-pro like he was or be ranked even higher than semi-pro. Becoming a pro is something I have been dreaming about since I was a little girl.

Well, I shall tell you more about me. I LOVE singing songs to my shower head, playing the guitar and violin, and I love to dance and have fun. Fun is my main part in life. And another big part in my life is helping others. I love to see others happy, especially seeing little kids happy when I used to go help them play soccer. When I was in 8th grade, mym class raised money to adopt a family from Africa. The family we adopted was from Congo, Africa and there were about 18 family members in the family. I loved that family so much cause they spoke english and french. I also got to play soccer with them and I have to admit, they were all very good. I learned alot from them.

Now, I will talk about all my injuries all from only one sport, soccer. I have sprained my ankles and wrists like at least 10 times. I have also broken my right ankle once and both wrists three times. I have sprained my shoulder, back neck and broken my noise. And also a couple of toes. I know what you are thinking, I should probably should give up the sport, but I am a girl that never gives up. Right now, I am recovering from a ACL surgery which happens to be my second one in 13 months from my first one. I would love to tell you how it tore again but I honestly have no idea how that happened.

So, I have a lot of experience in hospitals as you can see. I would love to work at St. Joseph's Hospital. I have worked there when I was in 7th grade but that was a very long time ago. I worked with the heart patiences and helped the nurses prep the patience for surgery. It was kinda cool to help and see how things work with the machines. I also got to see an Open Heart Surgery with my aunt cause she was the manger on the floor so that was really cool.

So, this is all I can think about writting. I really like writting. I am pretty good at it. I guess you can say that I am a dork for talking about my life and things i like to do. I love dancing around my room singing songs into my hairbrush which is kinda funny if you think about it. And i also love making funny faces at people when I am bored and just for fun.

Well that's it!

I would want to become a volunteer to help out at Le service Saint Joseph for a variaty of reason.

First off I have the advantage of being a good speaker. So when it comes to explaining the wonderful miracles I wont be the type of person to get nervous. My historical religious background will allowed me to make otheres see and understand each miracle for the better of others. And my patience with others would help me tremendously to express and help others to understand the parables of Lourdes. My knowledge of the french and spanish language will allow me to communicate with other people and explain the miracles and testimonies of those lucky enough to have experince a miracle. Overall the main reason i would be an outstanding volunteer would be because of my desire and wanting to meet new people. I'm a well arounded person and plus sharing my believes with other to who share the same will be a chance of a life time.

In the passed years I've done a numberous amount of different communtiy services for others. such as service at my local parish, my old school, and at Saint Mary's food bank. Therefore there would be no surprises for me. I was also be an outsatnding volunteer because I strave to be the best at all I can do and helping others is a must for myself. so all in all I'm the one to be chosen for this wonderful chance.

First off I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jannette Ivonne Tablas. My parents, Sotero and Silvia Tablas, were blessed with me on November 5th, 1991. I was born, raised and currently reside in Phoenix, Arizona. I spent my grade school years at a public school, Papago Elemantary School. I am now a sophomore at Saint Mary's Catholic High School and am an active member of my high school's drama club.

Throughout my lifetime, I have always been known to assist in what ever I could. In middle school, I was a first grade class's tutor for one year and a teachers aid for three. I tend to respond to others needs very well. As some have said, I have a lot of spanish. I love the fact that just by simply answering a question, I could have an impact on someone's life.

Academically, I strive to do my best

My full name is James "Maxwell," Barrett, and i have lived in Phoenix Arizon my entire life. I was born to my mother and father, but have lived with my mother due to seperation of my parents. Having my parents seperated has never stoped me from being a normal kid/teen. Because i often visit my father now and then i have still been able to learn life's lessons from both my mother, and father. I have attended a public school my whole life until Saint Mary's. i Have always been a Catholic, but not close to God. I am proud to say that having come to Saint mary's i have been able to become closer with christ.

Ever since i was young i have loved the feeling that is recieved when helping someone that is in need. The reason that i like, and enjoy this feeling is because it is a feeling of accomplishment in the sense that you just helped someone that needed help. Also because i know that if I had trouble with something and needed help, i would hope that someone would lend me a helping hand. I believe that I have alot of experience with helping people and that by having this experience i can do what i do best. I not only will be able to strengthen my weakesses by having this opportunity but i will be able to help the ones in need. I also believe that i am experienced to do this because i am a hard worker and i always can rise to a challenge.

I really desire to have this experience for many different reasons. One of the makn reasons is becausei like to help peop[le, like i said before. Also because i feel that I aquire the skills that it takes to do this type of an act. This is something that i much anticipate on participating in and hope to experience.

Hello! My name is Victoria Bonanni. I am a sophomore at Saint Mary's High School. I live in Phoenix, Arizona part time with my Father and the other half of the time I live with my Mother in Chandler, Arizona. My hobbies are acting on stage, dancing in front of the mirror to burned out musuc, singing in the shower, and cooking up some delicious recipies.

My experience in community service mostly falls under working with children. My acting class at my High School gets together on most Fridays and travels around the valley to Catholic schools to perform and act out children's books to their kindergarden through second grade levels. This experience has been an honor. I love children and I love seeing their faces light up and laugh when something exciting happens. When I was younger, my church group drove to a retirement home to sing Christian songs to them to make them happy. Of course, when I was younger I didnt understand why they were there, and why they looked old, tired, and distressed. I made a goal to myself that I would work as hard as I could to make even elderly people have the same reaction a seven year old would have when something funny would happen.

I am very much involved in my school's drama department. Including their school plays, re-enacting "The Stations of The Cross", and traveling to perform for the Bishop in a fifteen minute skit about abstenence.

The reason why I would absolutly love to do this wonderful oppertunity would be because I want to do absolutly everything in my power to to help these people at St. Joseph's Hospital. The sick, injured, and dying. I want to make them feel better. For example, if they feel homesick or miss their family.

Also, my personality is amazing. I hear from all of my friends, familt, teachers, even people i do not know tell me that my personality is very friendly, funny, unique, im not fake, im not afraid to look stupid or make a fool of myself, i can make an awkward situation turn into something more relaxing. My freinds tell me that i am almost like an expert in conversation. For example, i know how to make people feel right at home. But most of all, not only can i be a wierd, little blondie, i know when to be serious. Almost everyone can trust me. Im very reliable and responsible. I need to do this wonderful oppertunity.................

To be able to help others has always left a good feeling in me that it makes me want to do it again. To be able to help out people that are less fortunate than myself would be a good way to expand my abilities to be of assistance to others. In which case it will help; me prepare for my future and it will able me to become more opened minded. That is why I believe that I would obtain a great deal of skill for future experiences in which a will be able to exhibit in prospect opportunities.

I believe that I should be considered to go and help other people in need. The reason in which I want to go is that I believe that there are more places than just your near surroundings in where you can assist others with the needs that they are not able to do them selves. Also having opportunities to show leadership will aid me in be applicable to my future carreer. In the future i want to become a doctor and this way i would be able to accumulate expirence in the feild of helping people and it will help me to better understand what i will have to carry out in my future tasks.

Through out my life I have always been taught to looks out for others. I am the oldest of five and ever since my first sister was born I developed a sense for caring for others and wanting to facilitate things in which are difficult for them. I remember once when my sisters and I were younger and we were playing together they had difficulty reconnecting Barbie’s arm back to her persona so I helped them with their problem. Another time that I remember when I was of assistance was when my father had fractured his hand while handling a horse I helped him give food give water, shower the horses and to exercise them. When I carried out theses tasks I fell completed and I felt good about my self. It is tasks and doings likes these and many many more that are like these or different that I enjoy and that I know that have helped me become a better person and that I know that they will help me put in the upcoming events of my life. These are just some reasons why I believe that if I was to go Lourdes and able to help out the many unable to do many of the things that fortunate people get to do it would make life easier for everyone. It would also help a lot of people feel better about them selves.
Therefore to able to be of assistance to others it would be of great gratification for myself and for the people that I would be helping.I really hope that i will be strongly considered to be of assistence to others. this expirence will also greatly enhance my futer.
